Philly-based stylist Christina Schoon knows a thing or two about great style. With a career spanning editorial shoots, high-fashion campaigns, and personal styling, she’s helped everyone from W Hotels to Julie Vos—and plenty of real people in between—find looks that feel effortless and timeless. Her secret? An eye for what actually works (not just what’s trending) and a no-nonsense approach to helping clients build a wardrobe that lasts.
So when we wanted the inside scoop on 2025 jewelry trends, we went straight to Christina. She shared her take on what’s in, what’s worth investing in, and how to wear this year’s must-have pieces like you’ve been doing it forever.
SC: Some trends go big—how would you mix statement jewelry into everyday outfits without it feeling over the top?
CS: I love to pair irregular large pearls with casual clothing. I think the juxtaposition between a big statement necklace and the white of a pearl with a T-shirt or sweater is really chic. It's less expected and draws your attention to the jewelry more than the clothing.
A white T-shirt or a grey crew neck sweatshirt and denim would be my go to uniform for statement earrings or a necklace. I also would do either the necklace or the earrings. If you're going to go for a large necklace always pair it with a smaller earring, or large earrings with no necklace. It's basically like choosing a dress with cleavage or a short dress that shows off your legs - can't be both or it will be too much!
SC: Trends can be tricky—what’s your best advice for trying one out when you’re not sure it’s you?
CS: A really easy way to try something new and push your comfort zone in a minimally challenging way would be to mix metals. Silver necklace with gold earrings and silver rings. Silver and gold mixed bracelets and rings. Mixing metals is a very easy and chic way to invest in new pieces without feeling uncertain of how to incorporate specific pieces with colorful stones into your style. It also helps you work with what you currently have and add to it in a way that encourages layering pieces.
Otherwise stay true to what you love about your style - and elevate it! If you already wear a lot of small stone jewelry pieces try and elevate this by looking for larger statement pieces of jewelry you already love. If you already wear a lot of gold and brass, find the best version of what you currently have - splurge on the better quality. You'll never regret spending on quality.
SC: When it comes to buying new jewelry that's trending, what’s worth investing in? Any tips for deciding what’s a smart addition to your collection?
CS: I think leaning towards the classics will help you determine what will work with anything in your wardrobe and reduce purchase anxiety. The Lynda necklace for example is the perfect everyday necklace that could replace a basic chain. You can wear it with different stones and earrings and layer necklaces. It would take away the concern of overspending or needing to purchase more than one or two items if it classically fits into your style and works with all outfits.
I also believe highly that investing in quality over quantity is the best way to curate your style. It makes so much more sense (fiscally and environmentally from a sustainable standpoint) to invest in something special that you will love and wear with joy, versus needing to purchase multiple low cost/low quality items that may break or need to be replaced in a year - just to be trendy.
